summer reading: what's on your list?

photo of pink palace by sally mannix

as you may be aware by now, i have a book buying problem. actually an addiction.

i believe that all answers lie within books and my heart races when i enter a bookstore or library.

my passion for books has led to a lovely personal library full of gems including the complete anais nin journal collection.

since i'm finally on a role of finishing a few books (often reading up to 25+ at a time), i wanted to share my success and to-reads in hope of you doing the same.

recently read books:
the happiness project by gretchen rubin
the business of happiness by ted leonsis
a life worth breathing by max strom (podcast forthcoming!)
rework by jason fried
do more great work by michael stanier
blogging for bliss by tara frey
the not so big life by sarah susanka (podcast here)
the handmade marketplace by kari chapin (podcast forthcoming!)

currently reading books:
rereading the not so big life by sarah susanka
delivering happiness by tony hsieh
see jane lead by lois frankel
i love you more than my dog by jeanne bliss
the gospel according to coco chanel by karen karbo

on my radar to read books: (a few pages into most of these)
full catastrophe living by jon kabit-zinn
the feminine mystique by betty friedan
charismatic organization by shirley shagaw and deborah jospin
pour your heart into it by howard shultz
good to great by jim collins
the wisdom of yoga by stephen cope
the little big things by tom peters

so tell me, what's on *your* summer reading list?

bisous,
kimberly

This list does not include for the book club at the local library that I am joining this coming Thursday, and I have to do some catching up on some magazine reading as well. I am reading Body and Soul, Yoga Journal, and Burda Style that is a fashion/pattern magazine from Germany. You can trace the pattern and make an outfit, the magazine has around 50 patterns including children, maternity, and plus size for $9.00 chic on a budget.

So Kimberly, what is your trick to reading so quickly? Are you simply a fast reader, or do you skim some...what's the secret?

While I haven't had much time outside of "required readings," during the second half of the summer, I have my eye on:

-Off the Couch: Contemporary Psychoanalytic Applications
-Zen and Psychoanalysis
-Stroke of Insight (Loved Jill Bolte Taylor's Ted Talk---I highly recommend if you haven't heard)
-The Buddhist Path to Simplicity

the analyst,

my secret is that i skim my school books (shhh!) and devour my desired reading. i usually carry a book in my bag to pull out if i find open space (waiting at physical therapy, on metro, etc) and i try to read a few minutes most nights before i fall asleep. it is hard to balance reading for pleasure with all the reading we have to do while in school so i empathize with you! xx

Definitely some great suggestions! Have you considered creating an amazon store? I think you can get a small commission if people buy the books through it. I know I've bought many books based on your suggestions and podcast interviews. Maybe the commission could go to tranquil space foundation. I'd love to know that I could also do some good while fueling my book addiction!

I just finished Eating Animals and Dead in the Family (#10 in Sookie Stackhouse aka True Blood books).

Style Statement has been perishing for years, so I'd like to use the rest of June to work through it and discover my personal style statement.
