summer's online book club pick

thank you for reading along with our online book club.

i hope you enjoyed spring's pick, the gifts of imperfection, and gained solid takeaways for tranquility in everyday.

embrace imperfection and self-compassion.

i'm over the moon to announce the summer tranquility du jour online book club pick . . . 10% happier: how i tamed the voice in my head, reduced stress without losing my edge, and found self-help that actually works by dan harris.

i picked it up last weekend and have found it to be most insightful so far, i hope you will, too.

here's a 13-minute piece on it:

pick up the book and share how/if it's having an impact.

may we all be 10% happier. i look forward to sharing this journey together.

I've already read this book and absolutely loved it!! I'm dying to go on a silent meditation retreat now.

Thanks for sharing this Kimberly! I had heard until of the book until you mentioned it in a recent podcast. I will definitely have to keep this in mind for some of my counseling clients, because ultimately it addresses how to alleviate anxiety (i.e., the voices in the head worrying about the past and future) with meditation, from a (sort of) client perspective. Maybe it will make it's way into my De-Stress Yourself group this fall!

Love Dan Harris--he is a big supporter of shelter animals and the ASPCA! And I've been meaning to read this book, what a perfect excuse!

I wouldn't have known about the book if it wasn't your pick. I really enjoyed it. It was a pretty quick read but interesting to hear about meditation from someone who was so skeptical, and had such an unlikely path to it. Who could share the benefits he experienced, and also the challenges both leading up to, and after he started. I'd recommend it.

this is coming with me on holidays to Bali! After a stressful year at work I need some help resetting the balance. I'm also doing a 7 day mindfulness challenge so it's a perfect match!

I read this book at the end of summer - just when I need to be more mindful of these wonderful days. At first, I didn't like his tone; I found it a bit snarky. But following his journey to understand mindfulness and meditation was helpful. I have had many of the same questions regarding what it means to "let go" and "detach." I certainly didn't want to lead a "detached" life. I have a clearer understanding now - the respond not react - makes a lot of sense.
What's the next book for fall?
