dearest readers,
please forgive my delay in choosing july's online book club feature. between the birthday, getting out of town, and not getting online from costa rica until now, i'm a bit delayed. mea culpa.
however, while napping, reading, and dreaming during yesterday's thunderstorm (it's rainy season here), i decided on this AMAZING book: bird by bird. it felt like the perfect fit for july's vibe. the book was recommended by a georgetown university writing teacher in 2001 and i've skimmed it for years. i went to hear anne speak a few years ago when she released another book and i think you, too, will be inspired by her voice.
here's more on anne:
a video on her favorite writing exercises
article in sunset on finding time
wishing you moments of pleasure curled up with a book that inspires you to share your authentic voice . . . bird by bird. ready to dive in with me? hope so!
bisous. x

Fantastic! Yet another book that has been sitting on my "to read" pile for quite some time.
perfect timing for a perfect pic, as I'm working through a mediabistro blogging course. merci!
I have been dying to read this book, but haven't gotten to it yet. I'm really excited about this pick!
Love, love, love this book and Anne Lamott. If you ever have a chance to hear her read or speak, go. She is wonderful.
I love Bird by Bird. I had to read it back in college, and it's a book I decided to keep rather than sell back for a couple dollars. It's worth its weight in gold!
this is the first time i've taken part in the online book club (just have not made the time before) but i love this book and all things anne lamott.
looking forward to hearing what others have to say about this selection, and author.

Yay! Love this choice. Anne Lamott is one of my favorite writers, and one of my writing role models. Thanks for the excuse to re-read the book.
Over the top thrilled to have an excuse to pull this book back out and read it again! It has always inspired me and somehow comes back into my life at the most appropriate times. Thank you Kimberly!!
I'm glad to have an "excuse" to reread this!
Half way through the book, but keep coming back to these lines on page xii of the intro "One of the gifts of being a writer is that it gives you an excuse to do things, to go places and explore. Another is that writing motivates you to look closely at life, at life as it lurches by and tramps around" Looking forward each day to my time with this book.
Love love love Anne Lamott! I almost feel like she's my friend, as I've read everything I can find that she has written!
Began rereading on the train out to WV this weekend and loved this piece in the introduction: "One of the gifts of being a writer is that it gives you an excuse to do things, to go places and explore. Another is that writing motivates you to look closely at life, at life as it lurches by and tramps around." x
