Featured Tranquilista: Bon Jour.  Leela here. I'm a photographer and writer based in Portland, Oregon.  I create photos and stories of things that I love: food, family, memories, daily life, and really fancy chocolates (and all the other stuff in between).  My photos and mixed use of cameras, styles, and subjects are informed by a life-time of obsessive journaling and collage projects.  I use both a Diana (50s style film camera) as well as a DSLR.  I'm interested in revealing a story in multiple modes--creating a feeling, aura and mood.  My photo site is LeelaCyd.com

I'm also a features blogger for the highly-acclaimed home-cooking site, The Kitchn.  I keep up my own eponymous blog, Leelacyd.blogspot.com, which focuses on travel, eating, cooking and other musings.  I teach cooking classes and am a private chef.  I'm a woman of many hats who loves to keep life busy and interesting.  When I'm not taking photos, thinking about food or writing, you'll find me playing dance video games, browsing the thrift store for vintage dresses, painting my nails bright red and working on my crow pose.

We are locally sewn and plant 150 trees each month while also donating a portion of proceeds to Nest and Tranquil Space Foundation. In honor of a recent feature on convertible clothing in the New York Times, our featured piece is the reversible tube. Coming this spring: tres versatile, chic, and fabulous.

I totally agree that once you start taking pictures that it opens you opens you up to an different world, the ordinary becomes extraordinary!

I have a few books to suggest for photography!

-A year of mornings ( this is almost all images, but so inspiring!)
-Expressive photography - from the shutter sisters ( they have a website as well)
-God is at eye level

There are also iPhone apps and free sites for improving your photography tips .. ooh and Photojojo.com
The beauty of digital is that you can snap photos like a maniac and delete was does not speak to you!
