questions for FAQs?

once i finish my tranquilista manuscript (due tuesday - woo hoo!), i want to do a bit of updating and additions. one project on the horizon is a list of FAQs. i have a sampling of questions that i planned on answering for it, but i realized that it is *you* who i'm writing these for . . . so i should ask you what questions are on your mind.

also, the 150th podcast episode (yay, thanks for listening!) is around the corner and i thought i could elaborate on some of these questions verbally, too.

so, ask away. personal, professional, spiritual, style, creativity, yoga - what would you like moi to share?

wishing you a joy-filled, fabulous weekend that sparkles in some decadent, do-gooding kind of way.

OK so long story...

I'm finishing up my third year of university and had plans to go on to become a Naturopath. That was the plan until I figured out that Science (Bio and Chem in particular) and myself do not always see eye-to-eye. One night I had the epiphany that there's no way I could sanely complete four more years in grad school of the same traditional education system as a professional note-taker. SO I decided I'd rather do my own thing and start a business/get certified as a yoga teacher/be my own boss/expand my community/ and have a way to share all the things I find to be amazing.

2 things:
1) Ever since this little seed got planted in my noggin, I've found it really difficult to find any meaning or point to my current studies. I have an incredible mental block when it comes to making myself focus on and learn these topics that I no longer care about. It feels like I'm just plugging along so I can get my degree. What would you suggest to make this final year more meaningful, beneficial, and tranquil? (can't forget the tranquility!)

2) What type of advice do you have for the initial baby steps of this entrepreneurial expedition? Especially when coming directly out of college. Finding a location, permits, focus, funding, business skills/classes to take. What were the hurdles you had to jump to get your business to where it is today?

Thanks so much Kimberly, can't wait for the new book to come out! I'm gobbling up HTC for about the 4th time in anticipation. :-)

What was the hardest part about leaving your paralegal career?

How did you save the money neccissary to take the leap and quit?

What advice do you have for those of us who are looking to leave our jobs but don't have a 3-6 month "nest egg"?

How did you get to the stage with tranquil space when you had the income to hire staff (studio manager, event scheduler, other teachers, etc).

How do other teachers contribute to your income (a certain amount of rent per class, per month?)

I'm trying to figure out what I want to grow my business into. Would I want to be responsible for managing people if I opened my own studio?

I always think back to your quote from the E-Myth about if it's only you, then all you've created for yourself is a job vs. a career. It totally freaks me out, b/c it is only me at this point and I feel like it's going to take forever to have the funds to pay someone else ;-) I don't get paid for sick days and no one else can do my job for me!

Okay, I'm calm now ;-)

Would love to know more about this process.

Here's some more!

Of all the many teacher trainings out there, how does one choose?

How long should one practice yoga before embarking on a training?

How can one prepare for such a venture?

I can't wait for your new book. My favorite podcasts are the ones where you do a lot of musing yourself, so I guess those kinds of things would be in my FAQ. As I try to navigate my way along the tranquil path, I admit I find the daily things the most challenging. It's much easier when I'm doing yoga or writing in my journal in a coffee shop. And I so believe in all of the larger picture philosophy. But how does that translate into the way we go about doing the small, potentially tedious, aspects daily living that we all have?
So I appreciate and look forward to the glimpses into how you sprinkle tranquil touches throughout your day to day living. You seem to do things with a flair that make it easier for me to find a jumping off point. So I guess style, creativity and even small things like your fashion and accessory tips. I guess "lifestyle" things. Those are what I love and appreciate so much. I hope this helps and I hope you include lots of these kinds of things in your book. Best of luck with everything as you finish up.

Some really great questions so far, I can't wait to hear the answers.

Here are mine, and hopefully others can relate....

1) What advice/tips do you have to help someone stop worrying about things they can't control?

2) If you make a mistake, how do you get over it? How does one stop the coulda, shoulda, woulda's ?

3) For 1 & 2, I'd love to know your personal thoughts, then maybe any books you can recommend?

4) On a lighter note, who made/where did you get that adorable black crochet bag with the pink lining you had at the Inauguration Ball?

Sorry I'm so trigger happy with this but here's another one....
How can one breathe comfortably during backbends? I feel almost as though there's a secret I'm missing.

i'd love to know more about your writing process & schedule. how does one actually finish a book while working fulltime? (i'm struggling with this)

also, how do you let go of icky feelings/thoughts if they're still there after you've journaled about them?

and finally, what are some good poses to do when you feel like you can't get a deep breath (i usually feel this way when i'm anxious)

thanks!!

PS~~congrats on sending off your book
