Tips for doing yoga in your hotel room?

Use Y adapter

Lots of hotels are showing yoga videos on their closed-circuit tv.

Look around the room for yoga props:

There is usually an extra blanket folded in the top of the closet.

Bolster-type cushions on the bed or couch.

Take advantage of all the extra towels. Most hotels give you more towels that you could ever use in a month. Roll them up to use a bolsters for a under your knees, a supported backbend, or legs up the wall.

Create your own practice.

5 Hip and Tranquil Yoga On the Road Tips:

1. Think of your yoga practice as something you take with you wherever you go.
2. Do your homework and find a studio before you go.
3. Pack with yoga in mind. Bring a travel mat and load up your iPod.
4. Connect with other yogis to make the most of your trip.
5. Create your own practice.

I just did my own little "traveler's yoga" blurb on my blog, how funny.

Great suggestions, one question - what do you mean by "Use Y adapter?" The other suggestions are awesome, so I'm curious.

    Peace!

A Y-adapter has a headphone jack on one end and splits into two RCA jacks (one red and one white jack) that you can use to plug into TVs, and a lot of stereos. I'd also suggest a headphone to headphone one as well (male on both ends) to attach an iPod to devices that have headphone jack inputs (like some hotel clock-radios).

Here's a link to one type of Y-adapter. Here's a link to the ipod to clock radio line.

As a flight attendant, I' m also a travelling yogini. The pod cast for yoga on the road was great! Here are a few of my tips: The yogi toes yoga towel/ma t works really well on hotel carpets (better than any mat...) and it's great to put over those studio mats (that are sometimes smelly).
Yoga journal is a fab source for studios in US and world wide. check their web site. Also the yellow pages on the internet have always helped me. Even the good old paper one has led me to some fab studios....
For some yoga ambiance in my room I now bring incence (naag champa), as it weighs so much less than a candle...
A geat pod cast for 20 minutes of yoga in your hotel room is jiva diva yoga jam. Great to practise to in the morning of a busy day..

Thanks for the podcast! In this day and age of hyper-busy lives, being able to take your yoga on the go is essential!

I also like this website called YogaDownload.com. They offer downloadable classes for your iPod. The classes already have music built into them which is nice. The instruction is good and they have full length as well as shorter classes.

Jiva Diva podcast that was mentioned beofre is also very good!

Thanks for the update! I would love to travel and do yoga! I suppose I need to learn yoga first though! I have been looking for some yoga classes in Brooklyn that I can take. I think I found one I like!
