Featured Tranquilista:

I write about money–how to have more of it and how to manage the money you have. My new book, The Economy of You: Discover Your Inner Entrepreneur and Recession-Proof Your Life (January 2014, AMACOM), tells the stories of 100 successful side-giggers who built financial security by launching side-businesses. (I also share the story of my own Etsy shop of money planners.) In addition, I write about money as the senior money editor and Alpha Consumer blogger at US News & World Report. I love helping people make smarter money choices, especially when it comes to navigating big life milestones, from college graduation to parenthood to homeownership. In my first book, Generation Earn: The Young Professional’s Guide to Spending, Investing, and Giving Back, I cover many of those topics.

To help with that, I created Palmer’s Planners, a series of financially-themed planners that help people navigate life events and goals. The planners, including The Money Planner, The Debt-Free Planner, and The Baby Planner, are available through my Etsy shop. (When you sign up for my newsletter, you’ll get a free one-page mini-planner.)

I live in the Washington, D.C. area with my husband and our two children. When I’m not out hiking or hosting pretend tea parties with them, I frequently talk about money to large groups as well as on television and the radio. I also grew up in the area, but took a few detours to attend Amherst College, work for Asahi Shimbun/International Herald Tribune in Tokyo as a Henry Luce Scholar, and earn a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Chicago.
