wednesday well-being: my detox

welcome to wednesday well-being at tranquility du jour. as some of you know, i recently completed a 10-day summer detox with linda petursdottir of simple well being. while gorging myself on pizza in italy last month, someone shared their experience on a former detox with linda and it sounded like a great experience. so i signed up and invited a friend to join me on the adventure as my detox buddy.

foods to eliminate included meat, fish, eggs, soy, dairy, corn, alcohol, caffeine, sugar, gluten, and anything with trans fat.

foods to include during the detox were green juices, smoothies, raw veggies, steamed veggies, leafy greens, cooked whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds, fruit, sea veggies, vegetable stock, filtered water, chia and flax seeds, and herbal teas.

as you'll see from my pics above, i was not a purist. although i had my share of juices, fruit, beans, and sea veggies {sushi}, i also happened to be at a few gatherings that included cupcakes and i was unable to resist. i was, however, able to skip my morning dose of caffeinated green tea smothered in sugar and was most proud of myself for that. i resumed the tradition yesterday and wasn't able to fall asleep until after 1:00 am due to all the caffeine running through my veins. moderation, my friends.

one thing i missed a lot was pizza. after a holistic vet visit for cancer-ridden kitty bonnard {that included acupuncture and, yes, i have pics} followed by a 2-hour yin yoga workshop, i was jonesing and hit up the famous jumbo slice down the street. believe it or not, it actually made me physically ill. it will be awhile before i succumb to that "delicacy" again. funny things is that my detox buddy also fell under the spell of pizza that night, too, and we texted each other confessional photos.

since the detox ended on sunday, i've continued to focus on veggies, beans, and juices and have even been making my own. beau is my juice-maker and since he's on a west coast bike tour, i pulled up trusty youtube and learned how to work my breville with ease.

next step is trying my hand at the cooked whole grains such as quinoa, brown rice, millet, oats, and buckwheat. one baby step at a time for this girl who's a total clutz in the kitchen.

i lost 1-2 lbs, feel lighter, am less bloated {see ya dairy}, and look forward to incorporating the tools i learned in the detox into my daily life.

with a splash of bubbly and macarons from time to time, of course. it's all about balance, ladies. bisous. x
