seeking guest bloggers + suggestions

after working to organize pending projects, e-mails, and to-dos all day yesterday, beau and moi headed out to his cabin for the weekend. en route, we chatted work, dreams, plans as usual. i currently write tranquility du jour and contribute to additional blogs: TranquiliT, tranquil space, tranquil space foundation, the wish studio. feeling less than fresh and fabulous with my material, beau encouraged me to seek guest bloggers for tranquility du jour. "preposterous," i initially proclaimed.

well, i've been percolating in the possibility and am tres excited about it. there is so much potential with this little blog. it's been around for 5 years, has a loyal readership of amazingly creative and talented femmes, and, let's be honest, we *all* need a dose of tranquility - especially with sprinkles on top.

if you are interested in musing once a week on tranquility du jour, please send moi a one-page writing sample by friday, october 30 musing on:
1. why writing for tranquility du jour appeals to you
2. ideas you have for your piece (ex. tranquil tuesdays, fashionable fridays, etc.)
3. anything else that you think would be helpful for me to know
i plan to "fancify" the blog's look and make some fun changes based on guest blogger's and reader's suggestions over the next few months. if you have an idea, leave it in the comment section or send me an e-mail. submitting a suggestion will qualify you for a *giveaway* of my new tranquility to go audio yoga CD that releases october 30.

merci beaucoup.

suggestions...hmmmm...how about occasional submissions about how people are finding tranquility in a simpler life when everything about their career halts or completely falls apart? Something about switching gears during a period of tough (yet exciting) transition. I know your podcast hit on this topic when one of the guest authors said that the current economic setting was perfect for innovation/transformation. It would be cool to hear about women being in the trenches with so many unknowns about bill paying, what next? and then to hear about how their light is turned on and they have a new vision. Anyway, can you please enter me for the awesome audio yoga cd? =)
Thanks for everything you're bringing into the world! You're an inspiration!

You already do a version of this in some of the podcasts, but I think it'd be cool to do a "day in the life of" series that would profile hip tranquil bloggers, artists, entrepreneurs, etc. I so love knowing how all the fabulous readers of and women profiled on your blog go about their days, so it'd be neat to see timelines & pics of women being their fabulous selves amid all the busyness of life. Maybe you could be the first profile :)

This is simple. But I would love a search box. Sometimes I want to go back to a previous post and have trouble finding it. Thanks. I love the blog and can't wait to see the new things you do with it.

I agree with Shannon re: a Google Custom Search box. I would also recommend allowing people who aren't familiar with RSS to subscribe by email, which you can set up with Feedburner or Feedblitz.

I'd also love it if you added a blog roll so we can see what blogs you enjoy reading. Always looking for good new reads (:

Hi Kimberly,
I making a bunch of changes to my blog, too -- so I relate!

A nice addition to your blog would be categories. Now, if you have them already, then my bad. I missed them!

I really like GrittyPretty's comment about having readers make occasional submissions on how they are finding tranquility. We can all learn so much from each other. I'm also a fan of Revisionista's idea of a day in the life. It's such fun to take a peek into other lives and see while our careers, cities, and lifestyles may be very different, we are still all working on the same thing: finding tranquility. With more reader interaction, it is more like a community. My own comment would be to have artists and photographers contribute- what does tranquility look like to them? Finally, I have to say, I am super excited about the guest bloggers (and emailed my writing sample in today!)

One more: Put an AddThis http://www.addthis.com or ShareThis http://sharethis.com button on the bottom of each post to make it easier for folks to share your posts on all of their social networks.

I would love to be a guest blogger at Tranquility du Jour. You are a wonderful inspiration to me and I know that we share many values and passions.

I'm a yoga teacher and human rights advocate who has worked in Afghanistan, East Timor and Gaza. I would love to write about finding our own personal peace in these times of war through yoga - on and off the mat. I already write about taking yoga off the mat at my blog Zen and the Art of Peacekeeping (http://zenpeacekeeping.typepad.com).

I'd love to hear from you! My email address is fridaworld at gmail dot com
