online book club: winter's pick

creating the online book club was a request by a few readers in 2011 and i've been offering up a new read each month. as i pursue slight shifts in tranquility du jour based on your input, i'll be moving the book club to a seasonal pick. this will allow everyone more time and space to read and digest the books, along with sharing takeaways.

my dear friend britt bravo recommended this season's pick, the power of habit, and i've been devouring it slowly like a fine wine. it's truly divine. so insightful. and perfect for the new year as we seek to create new, tranquil habits.

here are a few resources around the power of habit:

1. interview with author on npr
2. new york times article
3. video below

may 2013 offer us the opportunity to create new habits that infuse our daily life with more tranquility.

reminder: to participate in our online book club, simply click the book image on the far right of the blog to share your thoughts, challenges, and insights regarding our chosen read. thank you for reading along. bisous. x

Love this idea of making the Book Club a seasonal thing, as I've just fallen behind the books BIG time. I'll be getting this one ASAP! Looking forward to it!

I am enjoying having more time to savor the online book choice and really think about it. Especially THIS book. Wow! A lot to think about. I read the first third of it and have been badgering my husband to read so we can talk about it ... but I can come back here to talk about it! (Tho I did definitely impress him with my new found knowledge of football.) This book feels revolutionary to me. I stayed up til 4 am the night I started it I was so engrossed. I skipped ot the back to try out the formula for changing habits and I have three in mind. Working on one (afternoon chocolate) ... it's like the grown up (and psychology) version of those great science experiments we could try at home when we were kids. Great choice. Fascinating read. Really enjoying it!

I really enjoyed this book too. Like Julia V, I found it revolutionary because I'm always asking "why?" Figuring out the reward (which is surprisingly often not what I actually thought it was) is really helpful in changing a habit. The appendix on how to apply this to your life is great. This book is definitely one to recommend.
