images from moments of inspiration + creation

December 6 – Make. What was the last thing you made? What materials did you use? Is there something you want to make, but you need to clear some time for it? (Author: Gretchen Rubin)

The last thing I mad was the cover of my 2011 planner pad. Gathered Anthropologie catalogs, stickers, masking tape, and sharpies. Wrapped it in packaging tape (makeshift laminating). Voila, I was delighted with the finished piece and am ready to launch 2011 with my stylish one-of-a-kind planner!

Indeed, many things that I want to make. First on the horizon is my right brain business plan a la Jennifer Lee that I'll be working on over the holly daze. Also, want to do some handmade pieces for my etsy store. Finally, I plan to make the card collection book over the holly daze!

December 7 – Community Prompt: Community. Where have you discovered community, online or otherwise, in 2010? What community would you like to join, create or more deeply connect with in 2011? (Author: Cali Harris)

In 2010 I've met some amazing women through Lisa Sonora Beam's art journal retreat in Mexico, my internship at N Street Village, the always inspiring cOMmunity at Tranquil Space, the lovely ladies who have taken my e-courses, and those I met during my Tranquilista book tour. In 2011, I'd like to establish a deeper connection to the artist communities and animal activist communities. AND to build more connections via Tranquility du Jour because, frankly, you ladies rock!

December 8 – Beautifully Different. Think about what makes you different and what you do that lights people up. Reflect on all the things that make you different – you’ll find they’re what make you beautiful. (Author: Karen Walrond)

Hmmm, this is an interesting question. My way of doing things is different. For example, I put lavender sachets and handstamped packages into the TranquiliT orders that I ship. I wore a thin pink belt over my soccer jersey in first grade. I carry a "hiking purse" when I head to the hills (a backpack? no way!). I am obsessed with pigs and alleviating the suffering of animals. I infuse my living and work spaces with scents and treats. I was into yoga years before it was "cool."

These are interesting defining traits to note as we all have them. I'd sum this up with: I flourish and shine when allowed to march to the beat of my own drummer. Et toi?

Found a great alternative to packing tape as a laminate for Planner Pad covers...craft stores sell clear plastic "sleeves" for scrapbook pages. I simply slid a sleeve over the front cover and another over the back cover, and trimmed them to fit. Now, if I want to change up my covers during the course of the year, I can.

Oh Kimberly, I miss you! I'm happiest when I can march to the beat of my own drummer, too. As far as deepening your connections w/ animal activists, I'm on the board of a great little nonprofit up here in NY, we should talk about ways to work together. :)

By the way, I'm doing Reverb too - so funny that one of the organizers was a guest blogger for you... small world!
