das X2 + french fries

monday evening was a treat as i got to sing along to krishna das at a local church. definitely not a typical monday night. after singing for a couple of hours, i began having visions of mcdonald's french fries in my head. so during om namah shivaya, i turned to my friend and said, "let's go get fries!" i topped the fries off with a hot fudge sundae and must confess that it was a lovely way to end the evening!

if you, too, enjoy chanting, bhagavan das is coming to tranquil space over thanksgiving weekend. he's amazing (beastie boys helped produce his latest album) and i've never seen him live so this should be fun. we could go get french fries afterwards . . .

Hi Kimberly, I don't know if you know this or not (or care), but McDonald's french fries are made with beef fat. Just FYI!

Oh! I love both Dases. ;) Maybe I can come to Tranquil Space and check it out. That's so fabulous!

McDonalds fries are NOT made with animal fat. That is 100% NOT TRUE. Absolutely false!

Awhile back McDonalds was sued by a vegan because it was discovered that dairy ingrediants are used to flavor the fries, but it is COMPLETELY untrue that the fries are cooked in beef fat. The ingredients are online for all to see: French Fries:
Potatoes, vegetable oil (partially hydrogenated soybean oil, natural beef flavor (wheat and milk derivatives)*, citric acid (preservative), dextrose, sodium acid pyrophosphate (maintain color), dimethylpolysiloxane (antifoaming agent)), salt. Prepared in vegetable oil ((may contain one of the following: Canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, partially hydrogenated corn oil with TBHQ and citric acid added to preserve freshness), dimethylpolysiloxane added as an antifoaming agent). *CONTAINS: WHEAT AND MILK (Natural beef flavor contains hydrolyzed wheat and hydrolyzed milk as starting ingredients.)

Its really irresponsible and ugly to spread lies, Anonymous, shame on you!

Sometimes, there is nothing quite as satisfying as absolutely junky food, particularly McDonald's fries.

And no, the fries are not made with beef fat. A quick trip to the website reveals 'natural beef flavor' which is made up of wheat and milk derivatives. Not beef fat.

Oops, I should have scrolled down and read more. Mab already passed along the nutritional information.

And still, nothing is as good as a hot order of McDonald's fries when you've got the craving.

Kimberly!! If you want to come to London and eat McDonald's french fries with me, that'd be great. They are just as good here.. if not better! :-)bell

not to continue the back and forth about french fries my mickey d's but just an fyi to all vegetarians who may or may not want to partake in mcdonald's food - the corporate website states:

"McDonald's does not represent any of our foods as being vegetarian. However, we gladly accommodate customer requests to custom-order items without meat (i.e., without beef, pork, chicken or fish). Note that even though we provide the flexibility to order items without meat, we cannot guarantee that during preparation the item does not come into contact with meat or poultry."

so basically, if you don't want to risk eating something that has come into contact with meat (i've known some fast food chains to cook their chicken nuggets in the same oil as the french fries), you may want to steer clear of mcdonald's

personally, i'm a big fan of their asian salad (no chicken of course) ;-)

Wow, such controversy over French Fries!

You gotta love those random cravings. I randomly crave fries with a chocolate shake.

Weird, I know!

wow- I didn't know my comment would cause such a controversy! I guess things have changed...the last I heard was that their fries involved beef fat, tallow, whatever. When did this change? I have been a vegetarian for over 20 years, so I would like to know.

Yeah, seems like I heard that their fries are pre-soaked in beef tallow, then fried? I thought this was the case at every McDonalds except for India.
