the secret

ok, have you all gotten into this new phenomenon? EVERYONE is talking about this book and the dvd. i've picked it up twice, scolded myself for having too many books, and walked away from it - not easy for me to do. featured on oprah last week, this seems to be the talk of the town. the basic concept seems to be that we attract what we think about. nothing terribly new but clearly presented in a way that has the world abuzz. i must confess that i'm quite curious as it has received rave reviews. anyone want to share their experience with the secret?

I missed that Oprah show as well. I was in chapters getting my browsing of book fix, as i noticed everyone asking the sales lady about "a dvd" curiosity got the better of me.. i had to ask.

I have been looking at getting this for about 6 months. I finally ordered it last week, though I've not seen the oprah show. I do understand that it has theoretical similarities to the movie "What the Bleep Do We Know" which is one of my favorite films.

At the risk of sounding like an infomercial, "The Secret" helped me change my life. After a series of family tragedies, I was diagnosed with depression and post-traumatic stress disorder five months ago. In addition to seeing a psychiatrist and a therapist, I discovered the great teachers of the Law of Attraction, which eventually led me to "The Secret." Now I'm off the meds (no, that's a good thing!) and have dealt with issues that have plagued me for the last 30 years.

Like I said, I realize this sounds like a sales pitch, but it really was my experience.

Also, if you'd rather not pick up another book, you can watch the film online for only $5; just go to www.thesecret.tv. Keep us posted!

I totally recommend watching the movie version. Most of what it suggests was stuff I had thought or felt, but never been able to articulate before hearing it spoken in such a straightforward and intriguing way. I found that The Secret offered such a simple yet magical way of creating my life and feeling good about where I am now that I am making all of my friends watch it, too. I can't wait to hear what you think!

totally agree with all comments and love seeing all of us getting tuned in and turned on to the law of attraction ... it just feels right, doesn't it?

i also highly recommend checking out www.abraham-hicks.com. their weekly CDs and live seminars are life changing in the same "of course!" way that the Secret is.

hope you gals enjoy it!

It is nothing new. Spiritual persons probably know this already. But it is presented in a way easy to assimilate and as all things, it came to me in the right moment when I needed it most. A friend said it gives too much emphasis on the 'get rich' part but he gave it to me as a gift.

I DID see this on Oprah - immediately ordered the DVD off of Amazon (I'm still awaiting its arrival). However, I put some of the learnings from Oprah's show in to play this week....and, I have to say thus far, my week has been amazing! Coincidence? I think not ladies.

UPDATE: I just found out that the Oprah show generated such a strong positive reaction that she's already planning a second show on "The Secret." How exciting!

Thanks for the recommendation everyone. I wasn't sure about it at first, but now I am starting to see how this works with everything else hip and tranquil -- meditation, yoga, positive attitude etc. Kimberly is a great example of this -- even if she didn't realize it!

By the way, I finished Eat, Pray, Love a couple weeks ago. It's wonderful! Thanks for the recommendation Kimberly!

I listened to the audio book. A friend sent it to me, and I listened to the entire thing, as she expressed what a difference it made in her life.

I have to say, I was far from impressed. Positive people attract positive things and situations. That's no big secret. I think we can all recognize the power of being positive and thinking positive.

I took issue with the idea that bad things happen to people because of their own negative thoughts. Also, the idea that you gain weight because you are thinking about your weight seems incorrect to me. Usually I gain more weight when I'm not remembering the things I need to do in order to stay at a good healthy weight.

There are other people who have said it better, I think. (And really, she says in the audio book it took her two and a half weeks to get through all this ancient theory? I don't buy that either.) Dr. Wayne Dyer, Don Miguel Ruiz, Norman Vincent Peale, even SARK.

I'm glad it's helped people. I just think it's "packaged". The real "secret" would be a lesson in how to package and market to your target market.
